Frequently Asked Questions About Wall Beds

If you have a question that isn’t answered here, please feel free to contact us so we can help you find answers.

What is a wall bed?

A wall bed, also known as a murphy bed, is any type of bed that folds up into a recessed space or cabinet. The two most common styles are the panel and bifold door style wall bed.

How are wall beds shipped?

All wall beds are shipped from our factory in Lima, Ohio. Most small orders are shipped via common carriers. Shipping charges are additional and depend on the location and how much is ordered. The common carrier will deliver to most locations in the United States right to your home (back of the truck delivery). We also offer delivery on our company truck. Charges are per mile from Ohio. Please call us for a quote.

Are wall beds easy to raise or lower?

Yes, our wall beds are very simple to raise and lower. All you have to do is grab the handle and rotate the leg around or push the bed up. Our springs and mechanisms glide smoothly, allowing for effortless opening or closing.

Can I use my own mattress?

Yes, you can use your own mattress. You can use any innerspring mattress up to 10” thick. No box spring is required. You can also use foam or sleep number beds with adjustment of bed springs.

Can the pillows and blankets remain on the bed while the wall bed is closed?

Yes, you can keep the pillows and blankets on the bed while the wall bed is closed. Each wall bed comes with a strap at the foot so you can slide your pillows under the strap. This ensures your pillows and blankets remain in place while you rotate the bed up.

How will my wall bed arrive?

If shipping by common carrier, the frames and melamine units will arrive unassembled in boxes. The Natural Wood and wood veneer units must be created in plywood containers for shipping purposes. If we deliver with our company truck, the units will be blanket wrapped.

How difficult is it to install a wall bed?

The installation of a wall bed can be done by almost anyone. Written instructions are provided and installation of a complete bed unit shouldn’t take more than 2-3 hours. Each side cabinet will take 1 to 2 hours using normal household tools.

What tools do I need to install a bed and cabinetry myself?

No special tools are necessary. All you need is your normal household tools.

How do wall beds attach? To the floors or walls?

The bifold door style frame is attached to your floor (wood or concrete). The panel style frame is attached to the cabinetry and that is all attached to studs in your wall. We advise that you anchor all of the cabinetry (bed and side cabinets) to the wall, through the studs, with the brackets provided.

Can I take my wall bed when I move?

Yes! Our wall beds attach to the wall stud in a panel style door or to the wall and floor in a bi-fold style. Either style can be uninstalled and moved.

What is a horizontal side bed vs. a vertical wall bed?

This simply determines which way the wall bed opens. A horizontal wall bed opens horizontally and is perfect for lower ceilings or ceiling limitations. Please check the dimension sheet for specific dimensions and how the beds fold out.

Where do you ship?

We have the ability to ship all over the United States of America and to parts of Canada. If you are outside the U.S., please contact us. We will gladly check with our freight carriers to determine a shipping quote for you.

Are wall beds comfortable?

Yes, absolutely! Because you are able to use any standard mattress, you can rest assured that your sleep will be comfortable as long as your mattress is up to your expectations. This is unlike similar space saving beds, such as futons or sofa beds which have lumps, bumps, or bars. Instead, choose our standard mattress or choose your own for the ultimate space-saving bed.

What warranties does Wall Bed Manufacturing offer?

Wall Bed Manufacturing offers the best warranties in the business. We have a Lifetime Warranty on our spring-operated mechanism, and a Ten Year Warranty on all cabinetry, foundations, and bedding.

How do I pay for my bed?

You can pay for your bed with cash, check, or money order.

What are the shipping costs?

We determine the cost of shipping, freight, delivery, and install, by final destination, quantity, and type of systems ordered. We can provide you with a quote. Please contact us and be prepared to disclose zip code and any other pertinent shipping notes or requests – such as stairs, elevators, curbside, in-house, or install – and how many wall beds and side cabinets you are looking to purchase.

Can I purchase just the bed frame and make my own cabinets?

Yes, you are more than welcome to purchase just the frame. You can choose from either style and we can provide you with the cut list from the installation sheet included with the frame. We can also custom match other cabinetry or furniture if you want to send a sample for us to match style, finish, or color.
